Skydiving in Namibia is one of the most popular and exhilarating activities to do while traveling the country. Swakopmund is Namibia’s adventure capital, so I couldn’t say no to skydiving there for my first time, especially since it’s one of the cheapest places to skydive in the world. I know the words “skydiving” and “cheap” don’t sound like they should ever go together, but Swakopmund Skydiving Club is one of the best skydiving schools in the world, so why not?
MY EXPERIENCE
The crew and the jumpers and I got into a tiny plane, with no door, and flew to 3000m (10,000ft) to jump.
When you do a tandem skydive, the pressure to jump isn’t on you (unlike bungee jumping)- the instructor, who you’re attached to, doesn’t waste any time and just goes for it.
It all happens so fast- once you jump, you free fall for 35-60 seconds (depending on how high you choose), which is both the best and scariest feeling because that’s when it feels the most crazy and out of control.
Once the instructor releases the parachute, you have a chill 5 minute parachute ride back to the ground.
It was so much fun and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
NEED TO KNOW AND COSTS
There are a few different skydiving companies to pick from in Swakopmund and you will likely need to do a tandem skydive with a qualified skydiving instructor.
A tandem dive costs between $2500-4800NAD (about $135-260US), depending on how high and how long you want to fall for. You can skydive from 3,050-4570m (10,000-15,000ft).
It costs $850-1600NAD ($45-87US) if you want an experienced photographer and videographer to skydive with you to film and/or take photos of your dive (which is highly recommended!). You can pay a little less to attach a GoPro to your front, which films your face while skydiving, but I would advise against this because no one looks remotely attractive while skydiving. I saw the video selfie footage of a guy I went skydiving with and it was horrifically unflattering and embarrassing.
Remember to lift your feet up when you land!
And if one skydive isn’t enough for you, the school offers one of the cheapest skydiving courses available.
Skydiving in Namibia geared me up well for when I went bungee jumping at Victoria Falls a few weeks later in Zambia.

Thanks! The Philippines is pretty high on my list actually
I’d love to try skydiving but I’d have to find a female instructor to jump with, I don’t know about having another man attached to me 🙂
Hahaha!
