Every sunny Tuesday evening at Vancouver’s Third Beach in Stanley Park, drummers and music lovers get together to drum and dance the night away at the drum circle. Brahm Olszynko started this weekly ritual eight years ago with only a few drummers, but now it has grown to draw a few hundred people every Tuesday.
I can’t believe I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life and only found out about the drum circle this summer.
My friend describes the drum circle as the best club in Vancouver. And it’s free! It’s a very tribal, free-spirit and positive energy. Come down with a drum, maracas, or anything you want to play. No experience necessary! There’s no judgement. If you don’t have an instrument, be prepared to dance the night away. This is a great spot for the sunset and the crowd goes crazy when the sun starts to set, but the party definitely doesn’t stop after the sun goes down.
The drum circle also happens to be on the same night as the Free Outdoor Movies in Vancouver on Second Beach in Stanley Park. So if you time it right, you can drum and dance until sunset, and then head over to Second Beach for a movie.
Winning.
And if you can’t wait a whole week for another drum circle fix, there’s another one on sunny Sunday evenings at Wreck Beach.
